Considering a home improvement project?

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative offers loans of up to $15,000 at 5 percent interest to co-op members who want to improve the energy-efficiency of their homes, farms or businesses.

The following measures are eligible for financing:

  • Efficient electric heating/cooling equipment that reduces consumption of oil, gas, or electricity (such as heat pumps)
  • Efficient electric water heating equipment
  • Insulation (including ceiling, floor, wall, duct, pipe, and water heater insulation)
  • Storm windows and doors
  • Replacement thermal windows and doors
  • Clock thermostats
  • Attic fans
  • Caulking and weather-stripping

The loan may cover the cost of materials and labor if installed by a contractor or materials only if installed by the member. New construction does not qualify for the loan program.

A free energy audit is required for members planning to purchase a heating/cooling system or water heater. During the audit, a cooperative staff member will evaluate the project before work begins to ensure it will be cost effective and will reduce energy consumption.

To qualify for an Energy Resources Conservation (ERC) loan, members must have a good payment history with Valley REC and other creditors.

Members (and their spouses, if they have a joint membership) will be asked to sign a promissory note. The loan amount will be based on contractor invoices or material receipts. The co-op cannot guarantee the quality of any contractor’s work or materials or the effectiveness of the measures.

Participants will be required to make regular monthly payments for the loan within the following guidelines:
