Capital Credits

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative is a not-for-profit cooperative owned by the members it serves. This means that any revenue in excess of expenses (margins) is returned to the membership. Each year, the cooperative allocates any revenue in excess of expenses to each member's account based on the total kilowatt-hours purchased by that member. This money is known as capital credits and represents your equity or ownership in the co-op.

Over the years, Valley has returned more than $15 million in capital credits to members. We plan to continue the annual return of capital credits to our members based on the percentage method. This means that each year every member with capital credits allocated to his or her account will receive a percentage of those credits.

Please be sure to keep the cooperative office informed about your current address so that your check can be mailed each year.
