Corporate office closing Fridays

Effective Monday, February 3, 2014, the corporate office of Valley Rural Electric Cooperative will no longer be open Fridays. Its hours will now match those of the district offices, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative operates according to democratic principles. Unlike private power companies, cooperatives are owned by their consumers, who choose representatives to run their business.

On Friday, April 11, 2014, Valley REC members will have the opportunity to use their voices and vote when Valley Rural Electric holds its annual meeting. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Mount Union Area High School.

Co-op employees support Toys for Tots campaign

Valley REC employees participated in the 2013 Toys for Tots campaign, contributing puzzle books, toys and even a stuffed Teddy bear. Organizers of the co-op’s Huntingdon Christmas Parade float also donated the float’s $200 first prize to the children’s charity.

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative won second place for its float in the Huntingdon Halloween Parade held Oct. 21, 2013 and sponsored by Huntingdon Regional Fire and Rescue. Co-op employees and their families populated the procession down Washington Street. Valley donated its prize winnings back to Huntingdon Regional Fire and Rescue.

Valley’s website is a winner!

Valley REC received the “Best Website” award at the PREA Communications Workshop held October 2-3 at the Nittany Lion Inn in State College. Judges commented that the co-op website is “eye-catching and easy to navigate.” Congratulations go to John Bookwalter, Jr. for his work in updating the website using Touchstone Energy’s “Co-op Web Builder” content management system.

Recruiting businesses for discount card program

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative is recruiting local businesses to enroll in the Co-op Connections® Program. Along with other Touchstone Energy® cooperatives across the nation, Valley REC developed this discount card program to deliver more value to cooperative members and promote participating businesses. The program is available free-of-charge to both members and businesses.

Payments no longer accepted at Huntingdon district office starting June 3

As of Monday, June 3, payments will no longer be accepted at the Huntingdon district office. In addition, there will not be a night deposit box available at that office. However, members can still apply for service at that location.
