Unfortunately, safety can be taken for granted—until something goes wrong. Don't be caught off guard with electrical safety. June is National Safety Month and a good time to make electrical safety education a priority. Take an active role in learning all that you can to keep you and your loved ones safe.

Dealing with Power Outages When Temperatures Are Warm

When temperatures are warm and the power goes out, there are other ways you can stay cool, comfortable, and safe. Following these suggestions from the Safe Electricity program will make it easier to cope with a power outage when the weather is warm.

We use electricity every day. This invisible force has become so commonplace that it can be all too easy to overlook possible electrical hazards, even in the safety of our own homes. May is Electrical Safety Month, and a good time to put the most important safety tool you have—your brain—to work.

Valley REC members elect three directors during annual meeting, learn about co-op’s electrical services offering

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Valley Rural Electric Cooperative members re-elected three incumbent directors to the co-op board during the 2017 annual meeting, held April 7 at Huntingdon Area High School. Co-op leaders also announced the launch of a new electrical services arm of the consumer-owned business.

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative operates according to democratic principles. Unlike private power companies, cooperatives are owned by their consumers, who choose representatives to run their business.

On Friday, April 7, 2017, Valley REC members will have the opportunity to use their voices and vote when Valley Rural Electric holds its annual meeting. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Huntingdon Area High School.

Co-op partners with Energy Education Council's Safe Electricity program

The majority of electrical accidents can be prevented if people take the necessary steps to be safe. That is why Safe Electricity®, the Energy Education Council’s (EEC’s) award-winning program, works to increase awareness of these safety steps and enhance attitudes toward safety through a variety of attention-getting resources. EEC-Safe Electricity is pleased to welcome Valley Rural Electric Cooperative as its newest member and applauds the utility for its dedication to safety.

Scholarship applications now available for 2017

Applications for Valley REC's Brighter Future Scholarship Program are now available. The co-op will award up to 15 $1,000 scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year to eligible students who apply. Adults returning to school to pursue further education or retraining can also apply. Previous Brighter Future scholarship recipients are not eligible. Applications and all required information must be mailed to Valley Rural Electric Cooperative and postmarked by April 15, 2017.

2017 district nominating meetings scheduled

Valley REC’s service area is divided into nine districts. One member from each district is chosen to serve on the co-op's board of directors for a three-year term. This year, directors for districts 1, 3, and 5 are up for election.
