Valley recognized as keystone of the community

Valley REC received the 2015 Keystone Award at the Huntingdon County Business and Industry Annual Meeting and Awards Gala May 5. Sponsored by Keller Engineers, Inc., the award is presented to a business that has been successfully operating in Huntingdon County for 20 or more years and has proven to be a keystone of the county. The business must have impacted the community through employment, outreach and service while doing business within the county.

Reporting outages via SmartHub now active

Valley REC members who are using SmartHub® can now report outages with SmartHub's web-based interface or the SmartHub app on their mobile devices.

Instructions (in both printed PDF and video formats) for using SmartHub to report an outage or service problem are available at the links below.

Valley REC members elect three directors during annual meeting

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The 477 voting members in attendance at Valley Rural Electric Cooperative’s annual meeting Friday, April 10 cast ballots to fill three seats on the nine-person board of directors that represents the utility’s nearly 22,000 consumers.

Valley REC announces Community Service Grant Program

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative debuted its Community Service Grant Program at the co-op’s annual business meeting. The new initiative offers funds to co-op members experiencing financial hardship, to service organizations such as fire and ambulance companies and to educators who need support materials to teach blocks of instruction related to electricity or the cooperative business model.

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative operates according to democratic principles. Unlike private power companies, cooperatives are owned by their consumers, who choose representatives to run their business.

On Friday, April 10, 2015, Valley REC members will have the opportunity to use their voices and vote when Valley Rural Electric holds its annual meeting. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Huntingdon Area High School.

LIHEAP deadline extended to May 1

LIHEAP logoThe deadline to apply for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) grants has been extended to May 1, 2015. LIHEAP helps low-income families pay their heating bills. The program sends payment directly to the utility.

April is National Safe Digging Month

This April marks the eighth annual National Safe Digging Month, which reminds Pennsylvania residents to always dial 8-1-1 three business days before any digging project.

Valley REC ends use of Apogee's home energy software

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative will no longer offer Apogee Interactive’s HomeEnergySuite® application, a web-based product that provides energy savings tips and self-serve home energy audits. Touchstone Energy® provides similar services through its Together We Save program, which also has been part of our website. Please use that program for your energy saving tips. Click on "Together We Save" under the "Save Energy" tab or on its logo at the bottom of each page.
