Do not give scammers money or personal information. Ignore them!
Pennsylvania State Police recently warned folks to be wary of phone calls from scammers claiming to be from a cable or utility company and asking for billing or account information. The scammer offers a special rate or lower price and then asks for credit or debit card information and other account information to complete the transaction. If the victim supplies the information, the scammer can then use the financial information to make purchases on the victim's account.
Please remember that your utility and communication companies already have the details of your account information and should never need to ask for it or pressure you for it. Also, most reputable businesses never call and ask for your billing or personal information over the phone. If you suspect a scam, hang up and call the company back using the telephone number listed on one of your bills or displayed on the company's website. You can also ask a friend or family member to help you determine if it is a scam or a legitimate call.
